Kingfisher Partners with Google Cloud to Enhance AI-Powered Shopping

This partnership builds on a longstanding relationship with Kingfisher, utilising Google Cloud to improve its digital capabilities and drive omnichannel growth.

Kingfisher plc, a home improvement retailer, and Google Cloud have announced a multi-year partnership to substantially improve the online shopping experience for Kingfisher’s customers through the use of agentic AI.

Through its strategic technology investment in Google Cloud solutions, Kingfisher will evolve beyond traditional keyword search on its sites, including B&Q, Castorama France and Poland, and Brico Dépôt France, towards enabling proactive, AI-driven shopping assistants.

This deal focuses on two primary areas:

Intelligent search with Vertex AI: Kingfisher is upgrading to Vertex AI Search for Commerce, transitioning from rigid keywords to intuitive, conversational discovery. This aligns with modern shopper behaviours to deliver faster, more accurate results. Early trials at B&Q have already demonstrated meaningful improvements.

Pioneering AI-driven shopping through agentic commerce: This partnership with Google Cloud will enable Kingfisher to unlock its extensive product and data catalogues to develop proactive AI shopping agents. These agents will assist customers in planning complex home improvement projects, generating intelligent shopping lists, and executing seamless purchases.

Thierry Garnier, CEO of Kingfisher plc, said, “Through this partnership with Google Cloud, we are enabling our customers to search for and purchase home improvement products with AI—delivering a highly personalised and straightforward shopping experience. These investments position Kingfisher at the forefront of AI-powered retail, providing meaningful innovation within our expanding digital ecosystem and helping us meet the rapidly changing needs of our customers.”

Matt Renner, President and Chief Revenue Officer at Google Cloud, said, “Kingfisher is setting a new standard for how retailers can utilise innovative cloud solutions to address complex customer challenges. By integrating Google Cloud’s Vertex AI and preparing its data for an agentic future, they are creating genuinely helpful, conversational shopping experiences. We are proud to support Kingfisher’s digital transformation across the UK and Europe.”

This agreement builds on a longstanding relationship with Kingfisher, utilising Google Cloud to enhance its digital capabilities and drive omnichannel growth. It is already yielding results, with ecommerce accounting for over 20% of Kingfisher’s Group sales. It also builds on the success of Kingfisher’s in-house AI platform, Athena, launched in 2023 to power virtual assistants like Hello Casto and Hello B&Q.

Beyond these customer tools, Kingfisher collaborates closely with Google’s Ads and Shopping teams to improve online performance. Supporting all of this is the modernisation of Nucleus, Kingfisher’s central data lake, which ensures the company has a secure and robust data foundation for its future AI initiatives.
