Lekkerland Opens Self-Checkout REWE To Go Store at Frankfurt Airport

Lekkerland expands convenience retail at Frankfurt Airport with a self-checkout-focused REWE To Go store designed for faster, frictionless customer experiences.

Lekkerland has announced the opening of a new REWE To Go store at Frankfurt Airport’s Terminal 3 in Germany.

The store features eight self-checkouts and operates daily from 5 AM to midnight, offering a convenience-led retail experience for travellers, visitors, and airport staff.

“With this launch, we are part of one of the most exciting infrastructure projects in Germany. The new Terminal 3 stands for the future, internationality and a modern travel experience. I am all the more pleased that we, as REWE To Go, are represented right here,” said Michael Mayer-Sonnenburg, Vice President REWE To Go Convenience Stores, Lekkerland.

“This location is much more than just a new opening for us. It shows how flexible and relevant modern local supply must be today, exactly where people are on the move. Whether passengers, visitors or the many employees at the airport, we are there when things have to go fast. With fresh products, strong services and a concept that is consistently geared towards convenience,” said Mayer-Sonnenburg.

Last year, Lekkerland also opened an unmanned, AI-based REWE To Go pilot store in Terminal 1 at Frankfurt Airport, located in the public arrivals area on Level 1 in Section B.

The cashierless store allows customers to shop without cash registers or staff, using artificial intelligence to track selected items through cameras.

When customers leave the store, the total amount is automatically charged to their chosen cashless payment method, with receipts delivered directly to their smartphones.

Accepted payment methods include Giro cards, Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards, and Apple Pay and Google Pay.

The store offers a range of fresh snacks such as sandwiches and salads, drinks and coffee specialities, ice cream, confectionery, and travel essentials, alongside drugstore items like charging cables and toothbrushes.

The product assortment includes around 570 items within a 70-square-metre space.

“Travellers, visitors and employees already have a wide range of options for shopping and eating at Frankfurt Airport. The new REWE To Go is an innovative addition to our range of around 280 stores, service providers and restaurants,” said Karl-Heinz Dietrich, Head of Retail and Letting Management, Fraport.
