8×8 Adds GPT Realtime 2 to AI Studio for Voice Agents

8×8 expands AI Studio with OpenAI’s GPT Realtime 2 to improve voice agent reliability, transcription accuracy, and AI-powered customer interactions.

8×8 has added support for OpenAI’s GPT Realtime 2 within 8×8 AI Studio to strengthen production voice agent capabilities across customer experience operations.

The update introduces GPT-5-class reasoning, expanded context handling, improved transcription accuracy, and enhanced tool-calling reliability for AI-powered voice interactions.

According to 8×8, the enhancements are designed to improve live customer interactions by reducing failed account lookups, incomplete bookings, missed transfers, and conversation breakdowns during complex workflows.

The company stated that GPT Realtime 2 supports a 128K context window, enabling AI voice agents to sustain longer, more detailed conversations while maintaining conversational continuity.

The update is currently available in early availability for 8×8 AI Studio customers, while existing AI agents will continue operating on current configurations until organisations choose to migrate.

“When a voice agent conversation doesn’t go as planned — it can’t pull up the account, drops the transfer, loses the thread — the customer feels it immediately. This update targets these failure modes that matter in live customer interactions,” said Hunter Middleton, Chief Product Officer, 8×8.

Improving AI Voice Agent Reliability

According to 8×8, GPT Realtime 2 introduces stronger reasoning and more reliable tool execution for workflows involving multiple operational steps.

The platform now supports configurable reasoning effort controls, allowing organisations to balance response speed and workflow complexity depending on customer interaction requirements.

The company stated that the feature is particularly useful for workflows such as:

  • Account verification
  • Inventory checks
  • Appointment scheduling
  • Call transfers and escalations
  • Multi-step customer service requests

According to 8×8, AI Studio can also automatically recommend GPT Realtime 2 for more reasoning-intensive or tool-heavy voice agent deployments.

Enhanced Voice Transcription and Interaction Visibility

Every voice session within AI Studio now defaults to Realtime-Whisper, OpenAI’s latest transcription model.

The company stated that improved transcription accuracy helps customer service teams maintain cleaner interaction records while improving AI understanding during ongoing customer conversations.

According to 8×8, more accurate interaction data also strengthens operational oversight, customer review processes, and AI-assisted workflow continuity across customer support environments.

Expanding Enterprise AI Customer Experience Operations

8×8 stated that the update reflects broader enterprise demand for AI-powered customer engagement systems capable of operating reliably in live production environments.
