United Rentals Expands Equipment Agent Access Through ChatGPT

United Rentals expands its AI-powered Equipment Agent into ChatGPT to help customers access equipment recommendations and project planning support more quickly.

United Rentals has expanded its AI-powered Equipment Agent into ChatGPT, giving customers a new conversational channel for equipment planning and rental support.

According to the company, the launch makes the Equipment Agent the first equipment rental application available within the ChatGPT store, extending customer access to equipment expertise through widely used digital workflows.

Originally launched earlier this year, the Equipment Agent is designed to help customers identify equipment solutions for complex jobsites and time-sensitive projects through conversational AI interactions.

The tool guides customers through project requirements and generates equipment recommendations based on fleet knowledge, operational insight, and application expertise from across United Rentals’ business.

According to United Rentals, early usage data indicates strong demand for specification support and rental-related planning queries through the platform.

“Leveraging AI can make expertise easier to access. By bringing the Equipment Agent into ChatGPT, we’re meeting customers in the platforms they already use to plan work, solve problems and make decisions. It’s part of our broader focus on creating digital experiences built around the speed, complexity and realities of modern jobsites,” said Tony Leopold, Senior Vice President – Chief Technology and Strategy Officer, United Rentals.

United Rentals stated that integrating the tool into ChatGPT enables customers to access recommendations directly through the platforms they already use for planning and decision-making workflows.

Reducing Friction Across Digital Customer Journeys

The expansion reflects United Rentals’ broader strategy to improve digital customer experiences across equipment rental and construction workflows.

According to the company, the initiative focuses on reducing friction, improving operational efficiency, and helping customers make faster project decisions through AI-powered guidance. The company stated that improving access to operational expertise through conversational AI can help job sites operate more safely, efficiently, and productively.
