Lidl GB Expands Lidl & Go Self-Scanning Trial

Lidl GB is expanding its Lidl & Go self-scanning trial to more stores across the UK, giving customers greater control over their shopping experience through the Lidl Plus app.

Lidl GB, a supermarket retailer in the UK, is expanding its Lidl & Go self-scanning trial to 37 additional stores following positive customer feedback from its initial pilot. The rollout will extend the feature to stores across Scotland, the South East, and the wider South of England, giving more shoppers access to a faster, more flexible in-store experience.

Integrated into the Lidl Plus app, Lidl & Go enables customers to scan products as they shop using their own smartphones, monitor their spending and savings in real time, and complete purchases more seamlessly at checkout without requiring dedicated handheld scanning devices.

“The early response from the initial phase of Lidl & Go has been really encouraging. Customers are telling us they value the control and visibility it gives them over their spend, as well as the flexibility to shop at their own pace. This next wave of stores brings the feature to many more customers, and we’ll continue to take on board feedback to evolve the offering as we go,” said Louise Weise, Chief Customer Officer, Lidl GB.

According to Lidl GB, feedback from the initial seven-store pilot indicated strong interest from customers with children and those seeking greater flexibility during their store visits. The self-scanning capability is designed to give customers better visibility into their baskets while reducing friction at checkout.

The expansion forms part of Lidl GB’s broader investment in digital customer experiences. Recent enhancements to the Lidl Plus app include personalised coupons and the introduction of Lidl Points, providing customers with additional ways to save and access rewards while shopping.
