American Express has expanded Membership Rewards redemption through Apple Pay, enabling eligible Card Members to use reward points seamlessly during online and in-app checkout.
American Express has expanded its Membership Rewards programme by introducing Use Pay with Points with Apple Pay. The new feature enables eligible US Card Members to redeem Membership Rewards points directly during Apple Pay checkout, giving them greater flexibility to use rewards on everyday purchases.
The new capability allows Card Members to apply Membership Rewards points within Apple Pay’s existing online and in-app checkout experience without leaving the payment flow or completing additional redemption steps. Customers can choose to pay for all or part of an eligible purchase with their available points while continuing to benefit from Apple’s secure, private payment experience.
“Card Members want rewards that fit naturally into how they shop and spend. With this launch, we’re making it easier than ever for Card Members to use Membership Rewards points on the purchases they make every day,” said Lisa Kalhans, Executive Vice President, US Consumer Cards, American Express.

The feature allows eligible Card Members to shop online or within apps on iPhone or iPad, select Apple Pay at checkout, choose an eligible American Express Membership Rewards Card, and apply reward points directly before completing the transaction. Customers can decide how many points to redeem and use them to cover either part or all of an eligible purchase.

The launch follows American Express’ recent announcement that Fanatics will become a Membership Rewards transfer partner, allowing Card Members to convert reward points into FanCash for purchases, including sports apparel, collectables, and exclusive experiences. The company said the expansion reflects its strategy of providing more redemption options across brands and services that customers use regularly.
