Asda Partners with Ocado to Upgrade Online Grocery Experience

Asda will use Ocado technology to improve online shopping, delivery performance, and order fulfilment across its grocery operations.

Asda has announced a partnership with Ocado Group to enhance its online grocery service by upgrading its website, mobile app, order fulfilment processes, and home delivery operations. The retailer said the collaboration will support improvements across the online shopping journey for the millions of customers who shop through its digital channels each year.

The supermarket currently fulfils more than 700,000 online grocery orders each week and plans to deploy Ocado’s Smart Platform technology across its website and mobile app, in-store picking operations, and last-mile delivery network.

The partnership will begin in 2027 with upgrades to Asda’s online shopping experience. According to the company, the new platform will offer improved search capabilities, more relevant product recommendations, and a simplified checkout process, making online shopping faster and easier for customers.

This will be followed by the introduction of new in-store picking and delivery technologies to help stores process orders more efficiently, improve on-time delivery performance, and increase the number of available delivery slots through better fleet utilisation.

Enhancing Digital Grocery Operations

Ocado’s in-store fulfilment solutions are currently used in more than 1,000 grocery stores worldwide, while the wider Ocado Smart Platform supports approximately 70 million orders annually.

“Asda is the cheapest full-range supermarket, as consistently shown by independent price comparisons from Which? and The Grocer, and has a large, well-established online offer. We know that continued success in this highly competitive market is dependent on providing a positive experience for customers every time they shop. Partnering with Ocado will strengthen our online offer and provide a consistent and high-quality experience for millions of shoppers, from order through to delivery, while supporting our Formula for Growth,” said Allan Leighton, Executive Chairman, Asda.

Supporting Future Online Growth

Under the agreement, Asda will retain full control over its customer proposition, pricing strategy, and online operations. Scheduled home delivery and click-and-collect orders will continue to be fulfilled through Asda stores and existing fulfilment hubs.

The retailer also confirmed that orders placed through rapid delivery partners, including Deliveroo, Just Eat, and Uber Eats, will continue to be picked by Asda using Ocado’s technology before being delivered by the respective third-party providers.

The partnership reflects continued investment in digital grocery capabilities as retailers seek to improve online shopping experiences, increase operational efficiency, and strengthen fulfilment performance across omnichannel retail operations.
