BMO Launches Blue Rewards Loyalty Programme

BMO is expanding customer loyalty benefits with Blue Rewards, offering more flexible travel redemptions and a growing partner ecosystem.

BMO has launched Blue Rewards, a new loyalty programme that replaces AIR MILES and introduces expanded travel, hospitality, dining, and retail partnerships for Canadian consumers. The programme combines a new rewards ecosystem with updated credit card and banking products, designed to give members greater flexibility when earning and redeeming points.

The launch includes a new portfolio of BMO Blue Rewards Mastercard credit cards, a Blue Rewards Chequing Account, and BMO Commercial Cards Blue Rewards. According to BMO, the programme will continue to be operated by a BMO subsidiary, ensuring a seamless transition for existing AIR MILES members.

Existing AIR MILES Reward Miles have automatically been converted into Blue Points at the same value, with members retaining their current card and account numbers. The programme also consolidates previous reward structures into a single points system designed to simplify the customer experience.

“Built around how Canadians choose to spend, Blue Rewards brings together in-store, online and digital experiences to make earning and redeeming rewards more flexible, convenient and seamless. Blue Rewards helps Canadians make real financial progress with a focus on making their money go further, every day,” said Mathew Mehrotra, Group Head, Canadian Personal & Business Banking, BMO.

Expanding Travel and Lifestyle Rewards

The new programme introduces partnerships across travel, hospitality, dining, and everyday spending categories. Travel partners include Porter Airlines and Accor hotel brands such as Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Sofitel, Rimrock, and Novotel.

Members can redeem Blue Points toward partial or full payment of travel bookings, including taxes and fees. According to BMO, the programme is designed to provide greater redemption flexibility compared with traditional travel loyalty programmes.

The bank also confirmed partnerships with Instacart and several MTY Group restaurant brands, including Thai Express, Mr. Sub, Manchu Wok, Mucho Burrito, Pizza Delight, and Jugo Juice. Additional partners are expected to be added throughout the year.

Creating a More Flexible Loyalty Experience

BMO’s new credit card portfolio allows customers to earn accelerated rewards on categories such as travel, groceries, gas, and wholesale purchases. Members can earn up to 10 times the points on eligible travel bookings and participating partner purchases.

The programme also extends loyalty benefits to business customers through commercial card offerings that include bonus earning opportunities, airport lounge access, and annual spend rewards.

BMO said Blue Rewards is designed to create a more connected loyalty experience by combining banking, travel, dining, and retail benefits within a single ecosystem. The launch reflects a broader industry trend toward flexible, partner-driven loyalty programmes that focus on convenience, personalised value, and long-term customer engagement.
