Delta and Amex Add New SkyMiles Travel Benefits

Delta is enhancing SkyMiles cardholder experiences with new travel benefits designed to add convenience and value throughout the journey.

Delta Air Lines and American Express have introduced new travel benefits for eligible Delta SkyMiles Card Members, expanding the value of the loyalty programme with additional travel perks and rewards. The updates include a complimentary second checked bag on domestic Delta-operated flights and new rideshare benefits for select cardholders. According to the companies, the enhancements are designed to make travel more convenient and rewarding while helping customers gain greater value from their loyalty memberships, without increasing annual card fees.

“This is what our partnership with Delta does best, bringing together our strengths to deliver more value across the full travel journey. From getting to the airport to stepping on the plane, we’ve worked together to add meaningful benefits like rideshare credits and a second checked bag so our shared Card Members get more value along the way, without increasing annual fees,” said Jon Gantman, Executive Vice President, Cobrand Products & New Product Development, American Express.

Enhancing the End-to-End Travel Experience

Beginning immediately, eligible Delta SkyMiles Gold, Platinum, and Reserve Consumer and Business Card Members will receive a complimentary second checked bag on domestic Delta-operated flights. The companies said the benefit is intended to simplify travel planning and provide greater flexibility for travellers.

In addition, enrolled Delta SkyMiles Gold and Gold Business Card Members will gain access to an annual rideshare credit worth up to $120 through monthly statement credits on eligible rideshare purchases.

According to research cited by the companies, travellers increasingly value benefits that reduce friction throughout the travel journey, from transportation to the airport through to baggage management and trip preparation.

Strengthening Loyalty Through Everyday Value

The new benefits form part of a broader effort to evolve the Delta SkyMiles programme beyond flight rewards by introducing practical travel-focused experiences that customers can use regularly.

“Over 30 years, Delta’s partnership with American Express has grown into one of the industry’s strongest because it’s grounded in what customers value premium experiences and real, everyday benefits. Together, we’ll keep evolving the Card experience in ways that make travel feel simpler and deliver real value to our Members in the moments that matter,” said Dwight James, Senior Vice President, Customer Engagement & Loyalty, Delta and CEO, Delta Vacations.

The companies have also introduced refreshed card designs and limited-time welcome offers for new cardholders as part of the programme update.

The announcement reflects a broader trend among travel and loyalty brands to create more experience-driven rewards programmes that focus on convenience, flexibility, and customer value across the entire travel journey.
