Lidl GB Expands Lidl & Go Self-Scanning Trial Across UK Stores

Lidl GB expands its Lidl & Go self-scanning trial to deliver faster, more flexible, and app-connected shopping experiences across UK stores.

Lidl GB has expanded its Lidl & Go self-scanning customer trial to seven stores across the UK, enabling shoppers to scan items as they shop and monitor spending in real time through the Lidl Plus app before completing purchases.

Following an earlier friends-and-family pilot across three stores last year, the next phase of the trial is now available in Airdrie, Cardiff, Epsom, Glenrothes, Kingston, Guildford, and Eastleigh.

According to Lidl GB, the expanded pilot is designed to generate customer insights to improve the shopping experience ahead of any wider rollout.

The Lidl & Go experience integrates directly with the Lidl Plus app, giving customers greater visibility and flexibility throughout the shopping journey.

“This trial is another step forward in our digital evolution, giving shoppers a smarter, faster, and more flexible way to shop. As we continue to invest in Lidl Plus, our focus remains on making the shopping experience simple and rewarding. Whether a customer chooses a traditional checkout, self-service, or the autonomy of self-scanning, our priority is ensuring they have the flexibility to shop on their own terms,” said Louise Weise, Chief Customer Officer, Lidl GB.

Expanding Flexible Shopping Experiences

The expansion of Lidl & Go reflects growing retailer investment in self-service and app-connected shopping experiences designed to reduce friction and improve convenience for customers.

The self-scanning capability allows shoppers to track their spending in real time as they move through stores, creating a more transparent and flexible checkout experience.

Customers can complete their purchases directly in the Lidl Plus app, without relying entirely on traditional checkout flows.

Integration with Lidl Plus Rewards

The expanded trial follows the latest updates to Lidl Plus, which recently introduced a points-based rewards experience.

According to Lidl GB, the loyalty update was introduced in response to customer demand for more flexibility in how rewards are earned and redeemed. The integration between Lidl & Go and Lidl Plus is designed to create a more connected and personalised shopping experience across physical and digital touchpoints.
